For most of my life I’ve been making music but I have only recently begun to incorporate compositions in to my sound designs. In Sozialwelt, a dance piece choreographed by Lexi Bormeth I got to bridge that gap. I created two approximately four minute compositions that bookended a song by J.S. Bach that Lexi had already chosen for the piece. I experimented with where sound ends and music begins by using found sounds to create rhythms and melodies. Lexi and I are both originally from the Bay Area so we decided to draw inspiration from the sounds of San Francisco. I was especially drawn to the soundscape of the beach and the sounds of trolley cars.
