One of the things I explored in Hoodoo Love by Katori Hall is how this play has a subtly to it. There's an element of magical realism that slowly overtakes you. In my design I built up the natural world that the characters exist in and then I used those natural textures to evoke a supernatural feel during the more magical moments.
